The rapid pace of advancements in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years has considerably heightened the interactions between humans and these systems. Once a staple of science fiction, concepts such as in-home AI assistants and autonomous vehicles are now becoming part of our everyday reality. As an academic specializing in this domain, I find the discourse surrounding the potential for AI achieving sentience — the ability to think and feel analogous to humans — both intriguing and challenging.
